Our artsyrella team conducted an online interview with ClaS!ck to take a closer look at this rap duo.
Who are your musical influences?
A Tribe Called Quest, MF DOOM, Little Dragon, Nancy Wilson, John Coltrane, Aesop Rock, Slum Village, Hieroglyphics, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Rage Against the Machine. We could do this forever.
Where did you get the idea for the name ClaS!ck?
When Supreme (Zachary Johnson) was with the group, we didnt want a really long name, nothing elaborate or corny, so we decided to make it simple. Classic. Classic, timeless music is what we wanted to make. So we changed it to make it more personalized, and thus, ClaS!cK was born.
What is your drive to record and release your own music to the world?
These days? In a world where media pretty much dictates what everyone likes and listens to, we take pride in creating from scratch music thats personal, or music thats just fun to make, not because someone told us to make it, or to follow a trend. Releasing ClaS!cK music is like a gift, in the sense that we did it ourselves, and something we both are passionate about.
Who is your fan base or demographic?
People of all races. Or anyone that likes a lot of different types of music.
Are you looking for an independent or major label deal in the future?
Eh, not directly, if someone wanted to let us control our music and treated us well, then yeah maybe. But until we make more noise? Who knows.
How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard it?
Not really sure, its all in how they take it.
What image do you think your music conveys?
Pretty euphoric, Eerie, Real, and probably dreamish.
In the next few years where do you see ClaS!ck at in this industry?
God knows, mainly because the way the industry looks? we may be underground for a really long time.
